A very serious accident with four victims on the border between Piedmont and Lombardy on the Turin-Milan highway, when an 82-year-old man drove the wrong way and died in a head-on collision with an SUV carrying four people, three of whom died.
It was almost lunchtime yesterday afternoon when 82-year-old Egidio Ceriano, originally from Magenta, near Milan, but resident in Cerano, in the province of Novara, entered the A4 at the Marcallo Mesero toll booth. Driving his Peugeot 207, the elderly man veered into the wrong lane and entered the wrong lane toward Milan. After seven kilometers, he had a violent head-on collision in the fast lane with another Peugeot, a 3008 SUV with four people on board.
Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, partners in life and work, among the world's leading Barbie collectors and creators, died in the crash. In 1999, they had founded Magia2000 together, a company that often collaborates with Mattel and creates customized Barbie dolls, one of which was sold in a 2015 charity auction for 15,000 euros.
Traveling with them were thirty-seven-year-old Amodio Giurni, born in Potenza and now employed at the BPM bank, and his wife, a year younger than him, the sole survivor and now hospitalized at Niguarda Hospital in Milan. She has chest trauma and fractures to a leg and an arm. She was intubated and is in serious condition, but her life does not appear to be in danger.
