A worker working at Steel Mill 2 of the former Ilva plant in Taranto, Claudio Salamida, 47, died today after falling from the fifth to the fourth floor of the plant. The news was reported by union sources.
According to reports, the man was busy checking the valves when the accident occurred.
Following the incident, a union strike was called. "Following the fatal accident that occurred in Taranto at Acciaierie d'Italia, under administration
"Extraordinary, the trade union organizations Fim, Fiom, Uilm declare a 24-hour strike starting immediately to be held at all the group's sites with territorial branches", reads a note.
"While we wait to learn the outcome," the unions conclude, "all workers at the former Ilva plant and in the metalworking industry rally around the worker's family."
