Twenty-six people were arrested in Operation Res Tauro against the Piromalli gang.

The raid by the Carabinieri of the ROS (Special Operations Squad) began this morning at dawn when, together with the military of the Provincial Command, they executed a precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge at the request of the Reggio Calabria Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA), led by prosecutor Giuseppe Borrelli.

The suspects are charged with mafia-type association, extortion, money laundering, self-laundering, illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, obstruction of auctions, aiding and abetting, and fraudulent transfer of assets, aggravated by mafia methods.

Among those arrested is 80-year-old mafia boss Pino Piromalli, known as "Facciazza." The Gioia Tauro gang leader had been free since 2021, when he completed a 22-year sentence under the 41-bis regime.

Known by the nickname "scarred," Pino Piromalli was arrested in 1999 after six years on the run.

In the investigation, Pino Piromalli is the main suspect as the leader, promoter, and organizer.
