Mateo Retegui will not be available for Italy in the two Uefa Nations League matches against Germany. The Atalanta striker underwent initial tests this morning, which revealed a strained muscle in his right thigh. For this reason, coach Luciano Spalletti had to remove him from the squad.
It remains to be seen whether Retegui will be replaced, with Moise Kean now the favourite for a starting spot at San Siro. Starting today, his clubmate Raoul Bellanova, also from Atalanta, will join the group, having been called up last night due to the less than optimal physical conditions of the other full-backs Andrea Cambiaso and Mattia Zaccagni. The two are in any case regularly in the group, even if their presence in Italy-Germany is not a given. At 2:30 pm, Spalletti will hold a press conference, together with a player .
Tomorrow the match will be played at the Meazza at 20:45. Italy will remain in training at Appiano Gentile, in Inter's sports centre, until Saturday afternoon when they will move to Dortmund . The return match is scheduled for Sunday evening at the Westfalenstadion, again at the same time. The winner will qualify for the Final Four in June and will also be able to host them. Retegui will need further tests, to be done upon his return to Bergamo, to understand his recovery time.
