Four Sardinian cheeses pass the selection and enter the October finals of the Italian Cheese Awards 2025.
Among the top thirty best Italian cheeses in the fresh category are: Piccolo Giunco , a pecorino from the Garau dairy in Mandas, and Brebiblù from Argiolas in Dolianova , among the blue cheeses, and in the Aged over 24 months category , Fiore Sardo Dop Nuraghe Orta from Ollolai and A Mamma Erkiles from Olzai compete for the podium.
The competition, now in its tenth edition, rewards the best cheeses produced with 100 percent Italian milk and includes three phases.
The first selection included 1,400 cheeses from all over Italy, with the 100 best Italian cheeses advancing to the semi-finals. Then a second selection, where four products from four companies in Sardinia passed. The third selection, where the top-ranked cheeses will be elected, will take place in October.
"It's a competition that keeps us in suspense for several months and this, for us in the sector, is a guarantee of the serious qualitative and sensorial evaluation of the products - comments with satisfaction Marina Garau , owner with her brother Mimmo of the oldest dairy in operation in Sardinia -. A result that makes us proud and ready to improve more and more ".
