Ismail Kdarè, the greatest Albanian writer, died this morning in Tirana.

88 years old, author of numerous works translated into many languages and published in numerous countries around the world, he has been nominated several times for the Nobel Prize for Literature. He had a heart attack.

In 2009 he received the Prince of Asturias Award, while other international awards have been granted to him over the years.

The last dates back to 2023, when in Tirana the French president Emmanuel Macron appointed him Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, one of the highest honors granted by France, which became his second country after Kadarè asked for political asylum in 1990.

Among his most famous works are “The General of the Dead Army”, “The Palace of Dreams” and “Broken April”.
