An angel worth almost 3 million euros.
It is the subject of a painting made in 1520 by the German painter Bernhard Strigel (1460-1528), sold at auction in Toulouse, France, for the remarkable sum of 2.8 million.
To think that the family that put it up for auction had it in the bedroom, without knowing that it was so precious.
Placed in an inventory for an insurance company during the summer of 2021, the owners of the work had requested an evaluation. And when they learned what sum it could be sold to, they certainly jumped for joy.
"When I saw this painting, it was in an exceptional state of preservation for a painting that has survived five centuries," explains Pauline Marringe, auctioneer of the Artpaugée auction house. The buyer remained, as always, anonymous. “But it could be the Louvre in Abu Dhabi, which recently bought another angel by the same painter,” continued Marringe. Adding: “The two angels would in fact apparently be the pieces of an altarpiece. But we don't know where the central part is. "
Maybe hanging on the wall of some other house, with the owner also in this case unaware that he has a little big treasure in his hands.
