The regional council has allocated two million euros as refreshment for Sardinian farmers who in 2021 suffered damage caused by locusts .

The resolution, proposed by the Councilor for Agriculture, Gabriella Murgia, was approved in the last session.

The checks by the Laore agency, arranged by the department itself, made it possible to outline the areas affected by the infestation: "On the basis of the report drawn up by the technicians - explains the commissioner Murgia - it emerged that the damage mainly concerned the crops fodder reused on the farm to feed livestock (dry grasslands and pastures) during the spring and summer months of 2021, with a reduction in relative production generally estimated to be over 30% with peaks of 50% ".

“The invasion of locusts - adds the president of the Region, Christian Solinas - has devastated the Nuorese countryside, bringing several companies to their knees. Compensation is essential to allow damaged farmers to cope with a sharp decline in their income, guaranteeing concrete support in the face of an emergency that has added to the difficulties of recent years ".

The indemnities will be granted "on the basis of the loss of income resulting from the reduction in production due to the damage, to be calculated by comparing the management results between the three years chosen within the previous five-year period and the one in which the damage occurred or , alternatively, on the basis of the higher costs incurred for replenishing stocks due to the loss of production ”, underlines the Region in a note.
