Counterorder. The Senate vote on insularity postponed to this morning at 11. The agenda was modified yesterday afternoon while the first point in the program was being discussed, namely European law and Italy's participation in Parliament EU: considering the weight of the issue being examined by the Assembly, not at all light, and the long session, it was preferred to postpone the island chapter of Sardinia, with the related constitutional bill on which the Palazzo Madama Chamber will decide today with the explanations of vote and, consequently, with the final vote.

We vote today

A change of program that not everyone expected, especially the Sardinian patrol that left yesterday morning for Rome to attend what should have been a historic day for the island. Only once inside the Chamber did it become known that the vote would certainly be postponed, as the Sardinian politicians present later communicated from Rome. Assuming that the Senate respects today's appointment, as rescheduled in the agenda, there should be no other surprises and this morning at 11 we will return to the Chamber for the expected "unanimous vote" by all political groups.

The awaited green light

A first green light that will allow the bill to continue its journey in the Chamber and then, after at least three months, to return to the two branches of Parliament for a second approval, having to modify Article 119 of the Constitution, in the text of which it will be inserted the principle of insularity with the recognition of the "serious and permanent natural disadvantage" of the island. This is the air we breathe until the eve, also confirmed by the members of the Sardinian commission on insularity who, starting with president Michele Cossa, are following the process from the capital step by step. "I do not hide the apprehension of these hours but we remain confident that tomorrow (today for the reader, ed) the law will be approved", says Cossa who has been waiting since yesterday with Massimo Fantola, the inspirer of the battle in Sardinia. "The extraordinary cohesion of the Sardinian people is also fully perceived among our parliamentarians, who are fighting to achieve the goal", adds the regional councilor of the Reformers, "today the protagonists are the Sardinian senators but I am convinced that, in the same way , the deputies will be when the measure goes to the chamber in the next few days ».

Appeal of the Sicilians

In the afternoon, at 4 pm, senators and promoters of the popular initiative bill will hold a conference immediately after the vote in the Chamber. Meanwhile, the close alliance with the Region of Sicily continues to bear fruit: yesterday the Union of Sicilians did appeal to all the senators of their island to be present today "in the classroom for the vote of the bill, ensuring the maximum possible support". The inclusion in the Constitution - they add - "represents the definitive recognition of the disadvantages deriving to Sicily and Sardinia from the condition of insularity". Today the deciding vote.
