The theme of insularity at the center of the conference "20 Years of EU policies in island regions: where are we?", Organized by the Brussels Office of the Sardinia Region on 12 October in the Belgian capital .

The event is part of the "European Week of Regions and Cities" , the main institutional communication event organized annually by the Committee of the Regions and the European Commission.

"The Region - reads a note from Villa Devoto - has always fought to bring the island question to the center of the work of the Conference on the future of Europe, actively participating in the definition of the regulatory framework necessary to face the challenges and peculiarities of island territories, and contributed to the preparation of the Omarjee resolution, with which for the first time the European Parliament assumed an institutional commitment in favor of island territorial specificity in European policies ”.

"We are walking - explains the President of the Region Christian Solinas - the long road towards European cohesion. We hope that the Union will start a path of reforms focused on greater territorialization to correct the imbalances deriving from a disadvantaged peripheral condition. More of 20 million European citizens spread over thousands of islands belonging to 13 Member States deserve equity, equal rights and opportunities ".
