Cagliari is the richest Sardinian city, the only one with an average income higher than the national figure. Carbonia the poorest .

The MEF Finance Department has published the data relating to tax returns submitted in 2023 on income accrued in 2022 .

Let's start with regional data. The island is growing little, only Umbria and Liguria are doing worse , while in absolute terms it is positioned in fifteenth place at a national level , ahead of all the regions of the South. And behind all the others.

In Sardinia the average taxable income is 19,411.35 euros, an increase of 4.4% compared to the 18,597.61 of the 2022 declarations (relating to the year 2021). Year-on-year growth is very far from the national average (+7.4%) and far from the figure for Lombardy (+10.8%). In absolute terms, Lombardy always stands out, while the national average is 22,806, approximately 3,400 euros more per capita than the Sardinian figure .

The region with the lowest average income is Calabria. In the first places, behind Lombardy we find the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (above 25 thousand), then Lazio, Emilia Romagna and Piedmont, all above 24 thousand euros in per capita income.

In terms of percentage increase year on year, only Liguria and Umbria are worse than the +4.4% of the island with a +3.9%. In first place, behind the +10.8% of Lombardy, Lazio and Valle d'Aosta, +8.8% and +8.4% respectively. Increases all eroded by inflation .

THE CITIES'

Analyzing the data of the cities, the "richest" in Sardinia is Cagliari, with an average taxable income of 25,315 euros (+741 euros in one year) . Followed by Sassari (21,376, +826 year on year), Oristano (21,361, +716), Nuoro (20,751, +721), Olbia (19,041, +936) and Carbonia (18,513, +609) . In the center of the island and in Sulcis there are also several centers with less than 15 thousand euros .

At a national level , the richest municipality is Portofino (Liguria), with a monstrous average of 90,609 euros . Ahead of Lajatico (52.955, Tuscany) and Basiglio (49.523, Lombardy). Among the large cities, Milan stands out, 35,282.5.

THE ACLI

«These data tell us that the average Sardinian taxable income is 72% of the average taxable income in Lombardy. A fact that is not at all surprising ", comments Mauro Carta, President of the Regional ACLI of Sardinia. «Already in December, the analyzes on the 2022 estimates of the disposable income of consumer families saw Sardinia with its 17,921.72 euros of disposable income per capita stable in 14th place out of 20 regions with a standardized data which said that where an Italian average person has 100 euros available for expenses, an average Sardinian has just 84.9 euros ."
