The old birthplace of the philosopher Antioco Zucca will become the new "House of Culture" of Villaurbana. In fact, the procedure for donating the property, known by the people of Villaurbana as "The Philosopher's House", to the Municipality ended a few days ago. «A proposal – comments the mayor Paolo Pireddu – born a few years ago and, after the bureaucratic process, a few days ago we signed the donation contract». Now the design phase will begin.

The structure - Zucca was born in Villaurbana in 1870 and, at the age of 20, moved, together with his family, to the house in via Vittorio Emanuele, now donated to the community. After having spent many years of his life outside Sardinia, for study reasons and to practice his teaching activity, in 1935, after retiring, he settled definitively in Villaurbana, to dedicate himself body and soul to philosophy, until death, which occurred in 1960.

The donation - After a process lasting several years, the "Philosopher's House" will now become a place of culture, in which Zucca's life and works will also be discussed. The will and determination of the heirs is decisive in the donation. It all started, in particular, from Mr Sisto Sarais, now deceased, who wanted to open a dialogue with the municipal administration. The parties immediately agreed on the desire to enhance the house, with the aim of making it a cultural reference point for the entire community. «In this regard – continues Pireddu – we would like to thank the Sarais family, Mr. Sisto, who unfortunately passed away, Mrs. Elvezia and all the heirs, because they have made a beautiful gesture, with the donation of this highly valuable home, the birthplace of the philosopher".

The future - The "House of Culture" of Villaurbana will therefore become an open place, a cultural monument of inestimable value for all Villaurbana residents and for those who visit. The house, in addition to telling the life and works of the philosopher Antioco Zucca, will be the place where culture, both local and in general, will be preserved and disseminated. «For Villaurbana – concludes Pireddu – the philosopher is one of the most illustrious characters, and his home, preserved over time without major changes, will be a point of reference for what concerns local culture. We will talk above all about the philosopher and his works, but it will be a meeting point where culture will be present at 360 degrees. We will do our best to plan and implement this very important intervention as soon as possible."
