In Sardinia, electricity bills in 2022 were the highest in Italy, especially for families in the Cagliari area.

This is what emerges from an analysis by Facile.it: looking at energy consumption for the past year, residents (with a supply contract in the protected market) in the capital and surrounding area spent, on average, 1,851 euros on electricity bills ( +108% compared to 2021). The average consumption per family recorded in 2022 was 3,799 kWh.

After that of Cagliari, more was spent in the provinces of South Sardinia (1,832 euros, 3,761 kWh) and Oristano (1,774 euros, 3,641 kWh); Nuoro (1,689 euros, 3,466 kWh) and Sassari (1,676 euros, 3,440 kWh) close the ranking.

At the regional level , the average 2022 expenditure for electricity was equal to 1,789 euros . Sardinia thus earns first place in the ranking of the regions where the most money has been spent on electricity. «Such high prices compared to a very high average consumption - according to Facile.it - can be explained by the absence of gas supply in many parts of the island , a situation which is often compensated for by resorting to electrical devices also for heating, with big impact on the bill.

But there is hope: the drop in the price of raw materials recorded at the beginning of 2023.

« With the new year we have witnessed good signs both for the cost of electricity and for gas – explains Mario Rasimelli, Managing Director Utilities of Facile.it -. However, we must not let our guard down and it is a good idea to continue to monitor your consumption and periodically check the offers on the market in order to identify any potential savings».
