«In 2020 - comments the CGIA in the report - the weight of the unobserved economy on the national value added (GDP) was 11.6 percent, equal to 174.6 billion euros. In the various areas of the country, the undeclared economy has a different impact on the wealth produced: 9.2 per cent in the Northwest, 9.8 per cent in the Northeast, rises to 12 per cent in the Center and reaches 16.8 per cent in the South. Specularly, the lost tax and social security revenue was distributed for each region, which, instead, is around 90 billion euros».

But the Cgia also signals a positive trend that characterizes 2022 and the first months of 2023: « In 2022 the taxman recovered over 20 billion euros from the fight against tax evasion . This data, announced by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in recent months, is yet another demonstration that in recent years the fight against fiscal infidelity is bearing fruit. Between

For example, between 2015 and 2020, tax evasion in Italy fell by 16.3 billion euros».
