"Calligraphy emerges from the paper and meets form." This is the theme of the new exhibition "MA – The Space Between Sign and Silence," in Room N°6 Space, at Via Marconi 319, Quartu Sant'Elena, which opened yesterday and will remain open today until tomorrow, Friday the 24th, inclusive.

The exhibition aims to bring to Sardinia the art of contemporary Japanese calligrapher Tontoku and her creative dialogue with Sardinian fashion designer Filippo Grandulli.

A meeting between calligraphy and fashion, between cultures and languages, between East and West, which gives life to a unique and original result, transforming the calligraphic sign into a living and contemporary form.

The two artists have previously collaborated on the Ikegai project, presented during Paris Fashion Week, where the Japanese artist's calligraphic works were transformed into textile prints and integrated into the Sardinian designer's creations, creating a cultural bridge between Sardinia and Japan.

Tontoku is internationally known for her research into contemporary calligraphy. Her works are characterized by a delicate balance between strength and silence, tradition and innovation, inviting viewers to slow down and discover the beauty of the space between fullness and emptiness.

The exhibition features a selection of original works on paper alongside a series of textile installations and artistic dresses created by Grandulli and Tontoku. On the opening night, Tontoku drew her calligraphy on a dress designed by Grandulli, in front of hundreds of people.

The free workshops introducing participants to contemporary Japanese calligraphy were also a huge success. All the spots were filled within hours.
