Dolls, airplanes, rocking horses, cars and trains. Sardinian toys but also from all continents, from Africa to Japan, from the United States to Europe.

Over 300 original and unpublished pieces dedicated to the world of toys, as a reflection of the transformations of society between the 19th and 20th centuries. This is the exhibition "Ludica - The toy as a symbol of change in two centuries", which was made open to visitors from yesterday and will be open until June 4 at the Palazzo di Città, in Cagliari.

The exhibition was presented yesterday by the city councilor for Culture Maria Dolores Picciau, who organized the event together with the Domina Association.

Thirteen thematic areas ranging from do-it-yourself toys to more sophisticated products, from documents to old books and magazines for children. We continue with the collection of antigus toys , self-built by children, made available by the Sa Corona Arrubia museum complex, and we get to touch the new worlds, those of Disney and Marvel, with Mickey Mouse, Big Jim and Spider-Man. It ends with the world of artistic dolls , signed by some extraordinary artists such as Edina Altara, Eugenio Tavolara and Albina Coroneo, and dolls with Sardinian costumes.

The objects come from some private collections, including that of Antonella Fontana and her Little doll museum, a very precious treasure chest in the heart of the capital, those of Beppe Deplano and Rossella Piras, and the collection of the museum of sa Corona Arrubia. «I am grateful to the collectors who have made such an important gift to the community and to the city, making available the unique artifacts that have created a very precious collection - explains the councilor Picciau - The exhibition is nothing more than a pretext to show how over the centuries society has changed from a political, cultural, social and aesthetic point of view, also through the use of toys».
