The Bessude council chamber will host the proceedings of the conference dedicated to "Luigi Nieddu: the man, the scholar, the layman" on Friday 22 March at 5.30 pm, to remember and highlight the personality of an enlightened teacher of literary subjects, historian of sardism and socialism and original interpreter of the figure of Antonio Gramsci.

The publication, created by the Camillo Bellieni Institute with the patronage of the Sardinia Region and the Municipality of Bessude, will be illustrated through the interventions of Mario Carboni, Angelo Castellaccio, Alberto Contu and Antonello Nasone.

A free thinker known for his unconventional outlook, Nieddu was born in Bessude in 1924 and undertook literary studies before becoming deeply passionate about historical research. Author of numerous essays on Sardinianism, socialism and autonomism, he had paid particular attention to the theme of the origins of fascism in Sardinia. The study conference held in Bessude in October 2022, one year after the passing of the prolific scholar, was an opportunity to analyze and publicly re-present some of his most interesting works. Among these stand out "Camillo Bellieni-Psd'Az and the Federal Republic", "The other Gramsci", "The origins of reformist socialism in the province of Sassari" and, finally, the most discussed "Antonio Gramsci: History and Myth" and The shadow of Moscow on Gramsci's tomb", two essays aimed at clearing the veil of mysteries that have hovered around the figure of the thinker from Ales since his death, where ideological sanctification has often masked the crossfire of friendly fire during the period more burdensome than the fascist dictatorship.
