How important is diet for fibromyalgia patients?
Nutritionist Pietro Senette explains how the right choices at the table can have beneficial effects.
«Fibromyalgia, a chronic disease characterized primarily by widespread musculoskeletal pain, appears to evolve differently depending on the diet followed . Although it is not traditionally considered an inflammatory disease, recent studies suggest that a chronic systemic inflammatory response may be present in patients with this condition.
Eating foods rich in antioxidants, omega-3 and polyphenols, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, extra virgin olive oil, nuts, seeds and spices such as turmeric and ginger, well known for their anti-inflammatory properties, could therefore play a decisive role in this game . In parallel, other equally recent studies have revealed that an unbalanced intestinal microbiota could play a role in the worsening of fibromyalgia.
Therefore, treating the dysbiosis often present in patients affected by this pathology can, in itself, represent an effective treatment model to support patients with fibromyalgia".
