Healthcare, Todde: «We are resolving the inherited damage. But we don't have a magic wand."

«With regards to healthcare, we have inherited a very complex situation and there are many open questions that we are facing».
Thus Alessandra Todde , in a long post on Facebook, draws up the balance sheet of the first 30 days of the new regional government's action on health , also responding indirectly to the criticisms made by the centre-right opposition.
«For two years - Todde writes on his profile -, I want to remind you, healthcare companies have not sent final balance sheets. This lack of data has created a serious management emergency. In recent days we have carefully analyzed the critical issues that prevented healthcare companies from closing their financial statements for the year 2022. Precisely for this reason, on Wednesday 15 May, the Health Councilor organized a meeting at the Ares headquarters, a meeting at which all the territorial health authorities of Sardinia were present. On this occasion, a common path was finally identified that will quickly lead to the closing of the 2022 financial statements, for which approval was actually expected by June 2023. Only after the approval of these will it be possible to proceed with the definition of those relating to the year 2023".
«It can easily be deduced – continues Todde – that we spent the first month dismantling and surveying the damage left by the previous council , including the resolution for the construction of the new hospitals , while instead from the Fund for development and cohesion (FSC) we risk losing tens of millions due to failure to plan the renovation of hospitals."
And then the list of things done : the adoption of the program for the detection and management of infections in the surgical field, the strengthening of the regional palliative care network, the reopening of the deadlines for the accreditation procedures for home care, the planning for the strengthening of telemedicine services, the increased funding for anti-violence centers".
Furthermore, the governor underlines, "we have also undertaken another vitally important path: we have started to discuss in depth, with all parties at the table, how to manage and cut waiting lists" .
«These – concludes Todde – are only the first interventions carried out among those planned. Reporting on what was possible in the first month seems necessary to us if we want to rebuild citizens' trust in politics. Now we must urgently approve the budgets, reorganize the local health authorities and the booking center on a territorial basis and dedicate resources to allow a greater number of specialist visits in proximity to the least served territories. There are many problems to face, especially in the territories, and we must solve them quickly. None of us has a magic wand and to do well we will need to work hard, and above all as a team, with all the health service workers."
