The EU Commission today gave the go-ahead to amend the 2022-2027 regional aid map for Italy. The European executive communicates it in a note.

The provision also concerns Sardinia and in particular Sulcis Iglesiente , which sees the maximum amounts of investment aid increase from 30% to 40%. Similarly, the province of Taranto, in Puglia, will see them increase from 40% to 50%.

These territories were considered as eligible for support from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) according to the territorial plans related to the Fund of Italy, approved by the Commission on 2 December 2022.

At the European level, the JTF provides 17.5 billion euros. With national co-financing, an amount equal to 1.211 billion euros is allocated to Italy.

The Program allocates 367.2 million euros to Sulcis Iglesiente and 795.6 million euros to Taranto, while 48.4 million euros have been reserved for Technical Assistance as required by Regulation 2021/1060.

The resources allocated to the territories are divided between the challenges, with 30% reserved for energy and the environment, 38% for economic diversification, and 32% for measures aimed at mitigating the economic and employment effects caused by the transition.
