New alarm from Coldiretti Nuoro Ogliastra on the theme of grasshoppers . In just under two months , he informs, " the eggs will begin to hatch and at the moment we have no news of the implementation of the integrated pest management announced last year by those responsible for eradicating or at least limiting this phenomenon".

Alongside its farmers and breeders since the first appearance, in large numbers, of the locusts that have made scorched earth since 2019, " certainly we have not proceeded with the plowing of the land which according to the technicians - recalls the trade organization - it must be done from September to December . Furthermore , at the moment the breeders and farmers who have been invaded by locusts in recent years and who should have collaborated and above all been informed about the action plan have not even been involved .

«Unfortunately - adds the president Leonardo Salis - we are witnessing a film that has already been seen . Once the biological cycle of the grasshoppers is over, the problem disappears to talk about it again the following year when we are invaded again and the interventions to contain them are partial or null. We continue along the path of little communication and non-involvement which we believe is fundamental. In this way the farms, which have not yet received any compensation for the damages suffered, are left in uncertainty and in the dark with the fear, unfortunately concrete, of a new invasion". « This means - concludes Salis - giving up the cultivation of land to limit losses with the further consequence of leaving the field free for the locusts themselves. In short, we are at the paradox that this modus operandi, rather than encouraging the plowing of the land, is a disincentive».

"It is desirable at least to inform farms, municipal administrations and agricultural organizations about how we are proceeding and what we should expect from April to early June and at the same time we must speed up with the payment of compensation" , he finally says Alessandro Serra, director of Coldiretti Nuoro Ogliastra.
