It was a true legend of Japanese animation Akira “Leiji” Matsumoto, who died at the age of 85.

His name remains inextricably linked to the "Capitan Harlock" series, which made him famous all over the world with the figure of the pirate who commanded a spaceship.

The mangaka died of heart failure.

His decades-long career includes science fiction works such as "The Battleship Yamato" (1974) and "Galaxy Express 999" (1977).
