In Gonnosnò the "Mural Project" takes shape. A way to beautify and revitalize the town by remembering and enhancing the figure of Antonio Gramsci, born in Ales, a few kilometers from Gonnosnò.

«We really believe in this project – begins the mayor, Ignazio Peis – and we are satisfied to put it into practice. In addition to being beautiful from an aesthetic point of view, they develop an important theme, to be highlighted. In our area this happens little, considering that Gramsci was born a few kilometers from here».

An idea born in 2007, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Gramsci's death; the Gramsciana Library organizes the “24 hours for Gramsci” event in the town and the artist Mauro Podda creates a mural dedicated to him, restored a year ago. After the restoration, Podda himself, in collaboration with the municipal administration, decided to expand the project with a cycle of wall paintings centered on the life and thought of Gramsci.

«By discussing with Podda – continues the mayor – we decided to dedicate something more to Gramsci. An underappreciated figure. After the renovation of the mural done years ago, the artist created two more. Three more last October. Between September and October he will be working on making three more, and the same number again next year. We have already identified the areas, preferring the main streets of the town, starting from the former Town Hall up to Piazza di Figu».

A total of 12 murals will be dedicated to him, accompanied by "QR Codes" which will allow visitors to discover the story behind each work with a mobile phone or tablet. "They all have the same style - says Peis - each drawing is depicted, with a theme for portrait, inside a concrete cube, which depicts the prison, with a light blue background, which represents freedom". To these is added the work of Francesco Del Casino, created on the occasion of the presentation of the murals by Podda and the book GramsciArt last July. The end of the project is scheduled for 2024.
