"My secret dreams? To survive with a young coach and team. And to open the new Gigi Riva stadium within five years."
Thus the president of Cagliari Tommaso Giulini , in an interview with Radio Rai GR Parlamento.
Saturday night's historic victory against Juventus was dedicated to Riva: "It's nice," said Giulini, "especially since it came in the very week of his passing. But Gigi—we all remember his rejections of Juventus—is always with us. His last sports phone call was to Ranieri before Cagliari-Bari. A victory that's worth double. With plenty of Band-Aids: for many months, without complaint, we've been without experienced and important players like Belotti. And then Deiola, Folorunsho, and Felici. Even Mina has more physical problems this year than in previous seasons. Not to mention Zappa's latest injury, 200 games with us."
The Rossoblu president also spoke about Kilicsoy: "A talent. And if he continues like this, we'll definitely discuss the option of a buyout in April. He's one of the three Turkish talents born in 2005, along with Yildiz and Arda Guler. I saw he spoke at length with Yildiz: I hope he becomes as strong as the Juventus player."
Giulini also praises Caprile: "He's an exceptional athlete and guy, already a leader in the locker room. He's had many requests, but he's chosen to stay in Cagliari, and I hope, barring a call-up to a team that can compete in the cup competitions, he can stay with us next season."
Speaking of goalkeepers, Giulini recalled his time as a goalkeeper in AC Milan's youth team : "They signed me after a great match against them when I was playing for Orione, the Dutch team. Sometimes I trained with Rossi, Taibi, and Pazzagli. When Galliani sees me, he always says, 'You were one of us.'"
Giulini also had a word to say about Fabio Pisacane: "He's had a great career path over the years," he said. "He even went to see how they work at Red Bull. He's a quick learner and improves month after month."
Cagliari faces Fiorentina on Saturday. "Commisso," Giulini recalled of the Viola patron who passed away recently, "was a great man, and Viola Park is the most beautiful sports center in Europe. A hug to the Viola family and fans. We are also close to Fiorentina in memory of Davide Astori."
