Politics in mourning: Gerardo Bianco, historical exponent of the Christian Democrats, died in Rome at the age of 91.

Originally from the province of Avellino, Bianco was a deputy in the Chamber for 9 legislatures and then also a MEP and Minister of Education in the early 1990s.

After the end of the First Republic and the years of Tangentopoli, he joined the Italian People's Party, of which he became president and secretary.

Scholar and Latinist, he was also co-director of the Horace Encyclopaedia at the Institute of the Italian Encyclopaedia.
