Genoa makes Vieira official, first training session four days before the match against Cagliari

Patrick Vieira is the new coach of Genoa , the club made it official this morning in a statement.
The former Inter and Juventus player was called to lead the first training session in the early afternoon, just four days before the Grifone's home match against Cagliari .
No official presentation, considering that there will be a press conference on the eve of the championship on Saturday. Today the French coach formalized the contract at the Villa Rostan headquarters.
"After a professional career, between 2011 and 2015, as executive development football in the Manchester City academy, Vieira has coached the teams of New York City, Nice, Crystal Palace and Strasbourg. Welcome mister!", reads the club's statement.
The decision to fire Gilardino and give the bench to Vieira came like a bolt from the blue . In the middle of the international break, 12 days after the last match of the Genoans (1-1 against Como) and just five before the challenge against Cagliari . Just when the team seemed to have reunited around the coach and, after a disastrous start to the championship, with 4 points in the last two games had left last place and the relegation zone.
No manager has spoken so far explaining the reasons for the dismissal. Fans, players and former Genoa players, such as Gudmunsson, have paid tribute to Gilardino with numerous expressions of esteem.
