A mural to give vent to a new artistic language that springs from a never dormant creative vein. Gavino Sanna, an internationally renowned advertiser, graphic designer and writer, never ceases to amaze and 82 years ago made his debut in the world of muralism in Orgosolo , in Barbagia, the town that has become the home of painted walls and considered an open-air museum.

Her artistic project was carried out in a house in Corso Repubblica by a team of Orgolese muralists, Maria Luisa Monni and Alessandra Pira , coordinated by Teresa Podda .

The painting tells the chiaroscuro of current times and the iconic face of Gavino Sanna appears with the characteristic long hair that stands out against a completely black background. Above his face, however, a colorful foliage appears, in a message of joy and hope.

"I invented a plot to tell the present day of this land and I wanted to create a painting that is a hymn to the joy , friendship and strength of a people" explains the advertiser on the occasion of the inauguration of the work in the part of the "Orgosolo Joviada" event promoted by the municipal administration. "Unfortunately - he continues - we live in a black world, of pandemics, wars and violence against women and children. In the mural I wanted to represent my face to leave a trace of my bond to the community and I imagined a life in Orgosolo made of flowers, colored plants, an almost Caravaggesque foliage to represent a joyful life. This is the message I wanted to send to young people: I told them that they should not waste their life at the bar smoke and drink but they have to live it, discover it, seize all the opportunities ".

It is the first time that Gavino Sanna sets foot in the Barbagia town and discovers its potential. "Strangely - he confesses - it had never happened before despite having often traveled the interior of the island. This is a very fascinating country that in the past has suffered a lot: when we talked about Orgosolo we talked about death and banditry, but country also known for its resistance and for its political commitment: the Romans have feasted on territories in Sardinia, but here they have not succeeded. And then the events of Pratobello where the State has failed to impose a military shooting range precisely because of the stubbornness of these people. The murals born over 50 years ago tell of this political and social commitment ".

"For us it was an honor to have collaborated with an artist of this caliber - underlines Teresa Podda, author of Gino Strada's mural among others -. For 30 years I have been creating and retouching murals, but the most important thing of these projects, even before that of art, is sharing , the sense of aggregation, telling different stories within this great container that is muralism ".

Accompanied by his wife Lella, Gavino Sanna walked through the streets of the town and talked with the people he met, but also with the other guests of the "Orgosolo Joviada" review, born from an idea by Mario Rubanu and sponsored by the administration led by Pasquale Mereu: from directors Alberto Negrin and Paolo Zucca, to the writer Pasquale Ruiu up to the singer-songwriter Piero Marras.
