The surge in jet fuel prices will not be paid by Sardinian passengers . This is the substantial agreement reached today in Rome by the Government and the Region at the Ministry of Transport.
Therefore, the money the companies are asking for to compensate for the doubling of jet fuel prices, from €635.27 per metric ton to €1,200, will be covered by public funds . This means that the Territorial Continuity tariffs, established on the island with the 2026-2029 tender, will remain unchanged.
The option of not burdening Sardinians with the doubled kerosene price was one of three options under discussion today , after Aeroitalia, the airline that won five routes in Sardinia under the Continuity Agreement, yesterday set an additional contribution of sixteen euros per flight to avoid losses. "We are working to avoid an indiscriminate increase in ticket prices," Minister Matteo Salvini said at the Rome summit, where the government was represented by Edoardo Rixi , the Ministry of Transport's deputy. From Brussels, President Alessandra Todde, who was busy attending an institutional meeting, spoke: "We have said we are willing to find regional resources alongside national ones to potentially help the airlines. So we are willing to find a compromise."
For the carriers, the solution remains unchanged. Gaetano Intrieri , CEO of Aeroitalia, He repeated it again today: "The political party chooses the method of allocating resources, we simply ask for immediate intervention."
