A document and research to understand how to better manage the aquatic ecosystems of lakes and rivers on the island. It is called the Regional Fish Charter and was presented via videoconference.

The initiative, scheduled in two phases, was born within the framework of technical-scientific collaboration agreements stipulated between the Nature Protection and Forestry Policies Service (Stnpf) of the Regional Environmental Protection Department and the Department of Life and Life Sciences. environment (Disva) of the University of Cagliari .

"It is an important instrument of functional knowledge for the planning of specific protection interventions , for the integration of the knowledge bases, for the proposal of management lines for the protection of fish fauna" explains Andrea Sabatini , scientific manager of the project.

THE SURVEY - The first part of the survey was dedicated to the deepening of knowledge on the state of the fish fauna in the mountain stretches of the Sardinian rivers, with particular attention to the sites where the genetically pure form of the Sardinian trout is populated. Objective: to aim at the conservation of this important species, the only salmonid in Sardinia and at risk of extinction.

"The first phase - says Sabatini, professor of Comparative Anatomy - led to the identification, through the implementation of in-depth genetic investigations, of additional sites where the Sardinian trout survives in its pure form, basic information to activate site-specific forms of protection" .

DATA - A work was carried out on the collection and reorganization of information in the regional context deriving from monitoring activities in the river basins. "This made it possible - concludes Sabatini - to put all the data in the system and to reconstruct a complete picture of the real situation, to build a reference database available in the regional environmental information system. The second phase extended studies and monitoring to the valley sections of rivers, orienting the focus on the presence and diffusion of alien species , among the most serious disturbing factors of aquatic ecosystems ".
