It has been known for a long time that the legendary Liverpool quartet deserved a biopic worthy of their name. And if Sam Mendez - the British director who brought us the masterpiece “American Beauty” - is directing such a project, the chances that something unmissable will come out of it are decidedly high. After the joint approval of Apple Corps Ltd., Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison, the biopic project announced last year in collaboration with Sony includes a series of four feature films, each dedicated to the point of view of one of the four members of the band.

According to Mendez during a conference held last year at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA), the intention is to release all four films on the same day. An unusual choice, certainly, but one that would contribute to significantly reducing marketing costs for Sony. The release is scheduled for April 2028, as announced at the recent CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where the names of the actors chosen to play the Beatles were also revealed: Paul Mescal will be Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon, Barry Keoghan will play Ringo Starr and finally Joseph Quinn will be George Harrison.

According to what The InSneider reported earlier this year, Anna Sawai, who rose to fame thanks to the success of the series “Shōgun” and won an Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series, has been chosen for the role of Yoko Ono - John Lennon's long-time partner.

During the Las Vegas event, the director explained that the four films will be intertwined in terms of characters and events, so that: "Seeing all four films together will tell the story in a unique way." And, stressing that not everything has been said about The Beatles, he added: "I can assure you that there is still a lot to explore. The music will be amazing and I promise you it will be worth the journey."

In an interview with People, Ringo Starr commented on the project: "I'm excited to see what Sam Mendes is going to do with the craziness of doing four movies at once. The Beatles will be in my room and the Beatles will be in Paul's room. We'll all be there." Barry Keoghan, fresh from the success of "The Spirits of the Island" and "Saltburn," spoke about his experience with the drummer during a guest appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Show: "I was so in awe that I couldn't even look him in the face. It was a surreal experience. We all grow up with the Beatles' music but to be in front of one of them is something else. He asked me to play, but I wasn't going to play the drums in front of Ringo, it just happened naturally."

Keoghan is currently immersed in training for the role, working hard to get as close as possible, both physically and emotionally, to the character of Ringo. During the last Fastnet Film Festival in Ireland, the actor revealed that he is in the middle of a 17-week bootcamp, granted by Mendez precisely to allow him to fully immerse himself in the character: "We've been in training for about 16 or 17 weeks. It's really a joy. The camp is like a training camp, it's a place where you have time to try things."

Explaining this phase of the work further, he added: "For Ringo, you can work on the walk, the accent, play with expressions. It's a place where you can fail, learn and experiment. That's exactly the process I'm in now. It's like a playground for me."
