Why did Manola Mascia, 28 years old from Cagliari, fall from the cliff overlooking Cala Fighera, thus finding her death? Was she alone or was her boyfriend, Paolo Durzu, with her, who disappeared into thin air yesterday and whose bag with wallet and documents was found wet on the rocks? And why had the girl not returned home on Tuesday, to the great concern of her family? These are just some of the question marks on the mystery of the tragic discovery of Manola Mascia's lifeless body yesterday. It was a hiker at the end of the morning who noticed a body in the waters of Cala Fighera, near the rocks. Once recovered by the Coast Guard, the body was taken to the dock of the Harbour Office, in the port of Via Roma in Cagliari, triggering investigations by investigators from the Flying Squad under the coordination of deputy prosecutor Mario Leo.
The research
In addition to the young woman's body, a purse was recovered containing personal effects and documents belonging to Paolo Durzu, a 32-year-old from Quartu, who was allegedly seen - a detail still being investigated - in the Cala Fighera area together with Manola Mascia. The two were engaged. While coroner Roberto Demontis began his examinations of the dead girl's body (finding signs consistent with those of a fall from a height and without finding traces of violence or wounds attributable to other causes, especially violence or the use of objects), the search for the young man began.
Today they will resume early in the morning and drones will also be used.
Deputy Prosecutor Leo – who personally followed the arrival of the young woman's body at the dock, together with the head of the Cagliari Flying Squad, Davide Carboni – should order an autopsy today to precisely determine the causes of death and also when the death occurred.
