Charles Leclerc took pole position for the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix, finishing ahead of the McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. This was Ferrari's first pole of the season. This was offset by Lewis Hamilton's twelfth-place finish, eliminated in Q2.

"The whole qualifying session was extremely difficult," Leclerc said immediately after the race. "Then everything changed in Q3. I knew I had to do a clean lap to aim for third place, and I took pole . Tomorrow I'll do everything I can to maintain this first place."

"The car isn't a problem, maybe we need to change the driver." Hamilton, however, was more bitter than ever after qualifying, commenting on his twelfth place on the starting grid. "I'm useless, it's not the team's fault. What am I missing? I don't know, I don't know. I'm asking myself that too. I have no answers to give. Maybe we need to change the driver, because it seems it's possible to get this car to pole position."
