Former One Direction Liam Payne falls to his death from a hotel in Buenos Aires

Former One Direction member Liam James Payne has died. The British musician, singer-songwriter and guitarist fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. It all started yesterday afternoon, when officers from police station 14 B went to the hotel following a call to the emergency number 911 for a disturbing man under the possible influence of drugs or alcohol. Upon their arrival, the officers found the body of a man who had fallen from the third floor of the building at 6092 Costa Rica Street. The Emergency Medical Service (Same), confirmed the death of 31-year-old Payne.

The request for intervention speaks of "a guest stuffed with drugs who is destroying the room". In the Deluxe Suite of the exclusive hotel, the police then found themselves faced with scenes of destruction and probable traces of drugs, perhaps cocaine. According to reconstructions, the musician had arrived alone at the hotel last Sunday. He remained there until Wednesday afternoon, when the hotel manager heard a loud noise in the backyard and discovered that a guest had fallen from the balcony of the room. The manager of Same, Alberto Crescenti, told the TV channel TN that it was a fall of about thirteen or fourteen meters. Any possibility of resuscitation has been ruled out. The police of the city of Buenos Aires and the 14th Criminal Prosecutor's Office, led by prosecutor Andrés Esteban Madrea, are trying to establish whether it was an accidental death or a suicide. Half an hour before the news, the singer had posted a series of photos and videos on Snapchat with his girlfriend, the influencer Kate Cassidy.

The singer was born on August 29, 1993 in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. His rise in the music industry occurred in 2010. After participating in the talent show X Factor, one of the judges of the program, Nicole Scherzinger, suggested that he form a band. This led to the formation of the famous group One Direction, composed of Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson. In 2011 they released their first studio album "Up All Night". Between 2012 and 2015, Payne and his companions released two CDs - "Take Me Home" and "Midnight Memories" -, musical creations that ended up positioning the English group as one of the most recognized internationally. In 2016, the guitarist began a solo career, during which he produced hits such as "Strip That Down", "Get Low" and "Stack It Up", among others.

After four years as a solo artist, he launched his first world tour in 2020. According to British press reports, the success was not easy to handle: as One Direction's fame increased, Liam developed mental disorders such as agoraphobia, anxiety and alcoholism. After the split from the group and the birth of his son Bear - with British singer Cheryl Tweedy - he entered rehab to regain control of his life.
