Workers of the former market town Marconi di Pirri on a war footing.

The employees gathered in the assembly to discuss the current crisis situation, with 400 people risking their place between direct and indirect workers.

At the base there is the "flight" of some traders after the non-start of the expansion works, scheduled for March 2021.

"We have decided to convene all the workers of the Marconi shopping center as Cgil, Cisl and Uil of the commerce sector on a situation that is paradoxical: there is no certainty of the start of the works, currently blocked due to the absence of authorization signatures, a shopping center which is now deserted and has lost commercial attractiveness, has problems of a structural nature and sees the decline of many activities: some have closed, others are closing and as of December 31st all rental contracts were canceled and therefore we are worried about the maintenance of employment levels ", explained Cristiano Ardau, general secretary of Uiltucs.

"It is important for us that the center is expanded and all the necessary works are carried out to make it updated and modern to the needs of customers. We will now take on a whole series of initiatives by asking the Municipality, the Region and the property to account for it", he added.

"The situation is serious - confirms Nella Milazzo, general secretary of Filcams of Cagliari -. According to the scant information we have, it would be an important expansion of the large sales structure which involves a series of authorizations from not only the Municipality of Cagliari. , but also of regional competence. But to date nothing is known about this process, only that some companies have decided to leave, while the hypermarket does not take off. In this situation the center is about to close and the ownership of the property is receiving cancellations that we hope are only temporary. Now we want to understand what is missing to start these renovations, but we are very worried. If there are no such responses within ten days, we will be heard. "
