Singing, dancing, and music come together in the passionate and captivating whirlwind of flamenco, which flies from Andalusia to Lazzaretto: it's there that tomorrow evening, September 9th, the Corte will be enlivened by Encuentros - Pasion Flamenco, the tenth edition of the festival dedicated to the Spanish musical tradition. Organized by Forma e Poesia nel Jazz and supported by the Region and the Fondazione Sardegna, the Raiz Flamenca group will perform twice in a row before the Cagliari audience.

Flamenco traces its origins to the late 18th century in Andalusia, likely within gypsy culture, developing its artistic style around a compelling emotionality in the tales of joy, lamentation, and resentment, known as "Duende," and was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage in 2010. And it seems that this great emotional charge has also made an impact in Cagliari, given that the original performance sold out and the organizers of Encuentros had to schedule a repeat performance that same evening, evidence of the high demand.

No longer just at 9 pm, but starting at 7 pm on Tuesday evening, the stage at the Corte del Lazzaretto will be graced by Raiz Flamenca, a group composed of dancers Patricia Ibanez and Abel Harana, singers Jesús Flores and Juan de la María, and guitarist David Vargas. Literally meaning "flamenco roots"—underscoring their roots in tradition, and not coincidentally also the title of an album by the great flamenco dancer Enrique De Melchor—the group will perform the genre's main "palos" or standards, such as bulerías, soleá, fandangos, alegrías, and tangos. An immersion in Iberian culture, which Sassari audiences already enjoyed last Saturday at the Teatro Astra for the finale of the Festival della Farsa.
