There is controversy over what the continuity of the future will be like, after the regional government approved the backbone of the new system which should come into force in mid-May 2022.

There will be a decrease in frequencies on the main line, the Cagliari-Rome. Prices for Island residents will remain identical to those currently in effect. But the stop at the single rate is confirmed: tourists will pay a full ticket, without discounts.

The main novelty on the network of connections - to the historical routes, Rome and Milan, are added the flights to Bologna and Turin - does not concern the whole island. The two Italian cities will be connected daily only to Cagliari airport. In Alghero, on the other hand, there will be the route to Bologna and that's it.

The Olbia airport, which just yesterday presented the board of winter flights (10 routes are added), on the other hand, is excluded from this broadening of horizons.

“The system inexplicably penalizes the Costa Smeralda airport”, explains M5S regional councilor Roberto Li Gioi. Giuseppe Meloni is also critical: "In addition to abandoning the single rate for resident Sardinians and non-resident Sardinians (and tourists), heralded by the majority on every electoral occasion, there is an incredibly discrimination between the three Sardinian airports compared to the new destinations of Bologna and Turin ”, Argues the director of the Democratic Party.

Meanwhile, in the next few days, the call for the management of routes without economic compensation will be launched, which must be published at least six months before the start of the service. If no company shows up (as probable), a second procedure will start, this time supported by the support of the regional coffers.
