The cost of a round trip from Genoa to Olbia for a ferry increased by 50 thousand euros due to the increase in the price of oil. The alarm was raised by Stefano Messina, president of Assarmatori, who also announced other projections: 38 thousand euros for the Naples-Palermo-Naples route and 27,300 more for Civitavecchia-Olbia-Civitavecchia. The conclusion was only one: “This being the case, the only alternative to the suspension of services is the increase in tariffs” for Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily, Elba and the smaller islands.

A problem that does not only concern vacationers, but mainly those living on the islands and who would suffer an increase in costs with a reflection on the basic necessities that are transported by sea.

At the moment 90 percent of ferries use traditional fuel, the energy transaction has not yet been completed, and the price per barrel of crude oil is now stable above 100 dollars.

The shipowners launch an appeal to the government in an attempt to obtain support for the sector, recalling the "territorial continuity of passengers and goods" which "is a right enshrined in the Constitution".
