Museums and exhibition spaces open on August 15 for an itinerary through millennia of testimonies, archaic and contemporary signs.
Ferragosto in Sardinia offers a range of proposals for art and archaeology enthusiasts.
CAGLIARI – There are many suggestions for approaching the civilizations of the past. The journey can start from the bronze sculptures, the so-called Nuragic bronzes, or from the large statues of Mont'e Prama, the famous stone Giants exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum in Cagliari (from 8.45 to 19.45) and partly at the G. Marongiu civic museum in Cabras (10am-8pm) in Sinis, where they were found and which houses part of them. Nestled in the Citadel of Museums, which also includes the Art Gallery with ancient altarpieces, the Archaeological Museum of Cagliari, with its views of the city and its exhibition rooms, is a precious treasure chest of unique finds in the world . The collection of Siamese art in the Stefano Cardu Museum (10am-8pm) near the walls is interesting, with paintings and porcelain. For the masters of the 20th century, the stop is at the Municipal Gallery in the Public Gardens (10am-8pm). Walking through the Castello district, the Palazzo di Città next to the cathedral hosts a retrospective dedicated to the famous photographer Robert Capa (10am-8pm). High technology and history at the Castello di San Michele (10-20), where two exhibitions have been set up: "Einstein Telescope, listening to the universe" and "Castellum Castri: daily life in Pisan Cagliari". Also in Cagliari , a dive into the atmospheres of yesteryear with the exhibition I manifestoi cinematografici della collezione Senis , il cinema e l’arte dell’illustration set up at the Exma , (from 9 to 13 and from 16 to 20), while the Sala della Torretta hosts the shots of Marco Loi in "Pratobello delenda est" (9-13 and 16-20). The spaces of the regional directorate of National Museums of Sardinia are also open on August 15th.
SASSARI – In Sassari, the Giovanni Antonio Sanna National Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum (from 9 to 13:45) and the National Art Gallery (9-19:30) with the exhibition of works by Giuseppe Biasi are certainly worth a visit . The shots by Carlo Antero Sanna instead retrace the "Memory of the Gremi and the Candelieri".
LA MADDALENA – The itinerary continues in Caprera at the Garibaldi Compendium (8.30am-7.30pm) with its splendid garden, in the shade of the Clelia Pine, and the new exhibition space, inside the windmill. Among the tools linked to the Caprera farm, the press for grinding olives and the machinery for cleaning wheat stand out. To learn more about the life story of the Hero of the Two Worlds, a few kilometres away the route leads to the Giuseppe Garibaldi Memorial (8.30am-1.45pm) in the Savoy fortress that houses the Museum. Visitors will be able to access four exhibition blocks, integral parts of Arbuticci's military architecture, in the multimedia rooms dedicated to the figure of the great leader. From the terraces there is a spectacular view of the gulf of La Maddalena.
NUORO – The Man of Nuoro is transformed into a "Diorama" with works that "offer the utopia of a new biosphere" (from 10 to 20). Same hours for the Ethnographic Museum with its precious artifacts of the culture of the Island. Same hours to visit the Ethnographic Museum. Nestled among amphorae and other archaeological finds, in Villasimius, at the Municipal Archaeological Museum (9-13 and 18-21) are exhibited the works created by the Dutch painter and engraver René Rijnink with his evocative language underlying his "Riflessi d'autore".
