Regional politics is in mourning. Pietrino Soddu, a prominent figure in post-World War II politics, has died. He was 97.
He was born in Benetutti in the province of Sassari in 1929. A law graduate, he was one of the leading figures of the Christian Democrats in Sardinia, holding numerous positions: from municipal councilor and mayor of his hometown to provincial and regional councilor for five terms from 1961 to 1983. He also served as regional councilor during the Renaissance years.
As reported on the Regional Council website, he served as regional president seven times from 1972 to 1980. He then moved to Rome as a member of parliament from 1983 to 1994.
