Antonio Rubattu, the master and pioneer of Olympic freestyle wrestling in Sardinia, has died.
88 years old, he lived in Sassari, and he dedicated most of his life to sport, starting from when he was a young athlete of the sports group of the Galimberti Fire Brigade in Milan, as recalled Vincenzo Piroddu, president of the Fijlkam Regional Committee, reporting excellent results in both weight lifting and wrestling.
It was he who brought freestyle wrestling to Sardinia in 1969: in Sassari he set up the wrestling sports group called “Donato Masella”. Coach of Sambo, he was also president of the Sardinia FILPJ Lotta Regional Committee in the four-year period 1988-1992.
