He himself defined it as "black roots music for everyone". Not only a musical but also a human phenomenon, the American Fantastic Negrito is the first big international name of the 2025 edition of the Abbabula Festival. Thanks to the organization of the Ragazze Terribili he will perform on August 5 in Piazza Moretti in Sassari.
His musical style encompasses blues, R&B and roots rock. The songs tell his extraordinary story, his art and his life, a testimony of resilience and transformation through music. The eighth of fifteen children, he grew up in a deeply religious Muslim family. At 12, he moved to Oakland (California) and spent his adolescence immersed in the local music scene, inspired by Prince's album "Dirty Mind" and deciding to independently teach himself to play several instruments.
"When I was twelve, my father stopped talking to me and kicked me out of my house," Fantastic Negrito says. "I never saw him again and he died while I was in foster care. On the record, I tell him what I've done in my life."
The evening will open with Francesco Piu , a Sardinian artist who has made blues his mother tongue, bringing his energy and talent around the world. The Sardinian bluesman will be accompanied by his band: Jim Solinas (hammond and clavinet), Gavino Riva (bass and backing vocals), Mauro Cau (drums).
