Double win for the Democratic Party and its allies in the regional elections in Emilia-Romagna and Umbria.
EMILIA-ROMAGNA – Emilia-Romagna confirms itself as a stronghold of the centre-left: Michele de Pascale in fact obtained more than 56% of the votes, while the centre-right candidate Elena Ugolini stands at 40%.
A gap that immediately appeared unbridgeable, so much so that while the count was still underway, de Pascale showed up at a press conference, together with the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein and former governor Stefano Bonaccini, thanking the voters and the coalition and claiming victory. From the vote – said de Pascale – «a very clear message arrived. This is a land that has very strong values and we have been good at interpreting them». «Now we will get to work immediately», continued de Pascale, then addressing the Meloni Government: «In this land we have been deeply affected by the latest flood events and now we need an immediate change of pace» for the reconstruction , therefore the first thing to do «will be to ask for a meeting with the Prime Minister».
We have been given "a great sign of trust and we will do our utmost to live up to this trust", commented Democratic leader Elly Schlein , who called the result of the polls "an emotional victory" .
UMBRIA – Success for the centre-left also in Umbria: after an initial head-to-head, the candidate Stefania Proietti obtained over 51%, with the centre-right candidate, Donatella Tesei , trailing at 45% .
MELONI'S CONGRATULATIONS – The double victory of the center-left was also confirmed by a message from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni , who congratulated the two new governors on social media. " I would like to extend my best wishes for good work to the new presidents of the Umbria Region, Stefania Proietti, and the Emilia-Romagna Region, Michele de Pascale . Regardless of political differences," the Prime Minister added, " I hope for constructive collaboration to address common challenges and work for the well-being and future of our communities. Heartfelt thanks," Meloni concluded, "go to Donatella Tesei and Elena Ugolini for the commitment, dedication, and passion they demonstrated in this electoral competition."
