A single constituency for Sardinia, distinct from the Sicilian one, for the elections to the European Parliament. It is the core of the national law proposal discussed in the Autonomy Commission in the Sardinian Regional Council, chaired by Andrea Piras (Lega), who approved it unanimously.
Now there will be the passage in the Chamber, with Michele Mossa, councilor of the Reformers and president of the special commission for insularity as rapporteur. After the go-ahead, it will be sent to Parliament which will have to schedule it as soon as possible.
«It is a result of great importance for the Sardinians - said the president of the first commission - and I also think it is a much awaited act. Our people need certainties in Europe, where everything is decided. Starting with transport and territorial continuity policies, moving on to agriculture and taxation».
The law consists of only two articles which establish the new table of division into districts for Italy. A corrective, reads the report of the law resulting from a transversal proposal, "necessary because the mechanism of rebalancing today determines the high probability that to represent Sardinia in the European Parliament will be candidates from parties who in Sardinia obtain very low percentages and therefore scarcely representative of Sardinian voters".
"Our goal - underlined Piras - is the final go-ahead at the latest at the end of the summer and I am sure that the Sardinian parliamentarians, the party I represent but also all the majority forces in the Meloni government, will not waste time".
