Brussels must assess "what bridges are needed to create the transition to a world with 100% renewable energy" because "we will need gas and nuclear power until there are sufficient renewable sources, such as hydrogen energy".

This was stated by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in an interview with the German newspaper “Die Zeit”.

Earlier this year, the "Financial Times" published a summary of the draft of the final taxonomy document relating to forms of energy, in which nuclear and natural gas (provided it comes from renewable sources or has low emissions by 2035) they were classified by the Union as "green investments". A choice that had sparked the controversy of ecologists.

"Taxonomy is a help for private investors" and "renewable energies are at the top of the list, this is a huge success", added von der Leyen, highlighting how "it is crucial that we get out of dirty coal quickly, that in Germany still contributes to the production of 30% of electricity ”.

Yesterday the new German government, which recently started the shutdown of three plants, announced its energy plan and confirmed its final farewell to nuclear power, following the policy decided by former Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2011 after the tragic accident of Fukushima.
