The European Parliament today definitively approved EU aid for the former Sardinian workers of Air Italy and the Port of Cagliari. The amount is approximately 5.4 million euros.

Then comes the green light to the two requests for support from the European Globalization Adjustment Fund for redundant workers (EGF). "The social impact of the redundancies - the Strasbourg Chamber explains - should be considerable for the Sardinian economy, which is also heavily affected by the Covid-19 crisis, in which the number of jobs decreased by 4.6 % in 2020 compared to a drop of 2.0% in the whole of Italy ".

Approximately 5.4 million is therefore allocated to the 801 former employees in the air transport and warehousing sectors on the island. Of these, 3,874,640 euros will go to the Sardinian workers of Air Italy while the remaining 1,493,407 euros will go to the workers of the Port channel. The text on Air Italy was approved with 662 votes in favor, 17 against and 18 abstentions. The text on Porto Canale was approved with 665 votes in favor, 17 against and 15 abstentions.
