"There is no indication that energy prices are falling from current records, this is a global phenomenon and the whole world is affected."

The words of the European Commissioner Kadri Simson, who opened the extraordinary EU Council of Energy Ministers, talking about the rise in electricity and gas prices, are not reassuring.

"So far 19 member countries have taken or announced measures to protect lower income groups. Most of the national measures are in line with European market and competition rules," Simson stressed. Among them there is also Italy .

"The increase in costs is essentially due to an increase in global demand, the acceleration in decarbonisation, the economic recovery and a form of market nervousness", said the head of the Ecological Transition Ministry, Roberto Cingolani, speaking at the top.

"With the national storage system, which is regulated, we have a capacity allocated through auctions, and in this way we have been able to maximize the yield of the available volumes. Today we have 85% of gas reserves which is a little less than previous years but remains at a value above the EU average ", he added.

"We welcome the commission's intention to work on rules that define the operating procedures at European level for the management of storage according to regulated models, based on market rules. Furthermore, the impact on the security of supply must be taken into consideration, given that the Natural gas will nevertheless play a significant role in the energy transition ", concluded the minister.
