Compared to 2019, Italian companies will have to pay out this year for the increase in the price of electricity tariffs , almost 36 billion euros more.

In fact, within three years, companies' electricity bills have practically doubled. Significant increases which - together with the increases in gas - will oblige some production activities, at least temporarily, to close their plants.
The extra cost was calculated by the Studies Office of the CGIA of Mestre which, for 2022, forecasted an overall consumption of electricity by companies equal to that recorded in 2019 (the year before the Covid-19 pandemic).

In addition, an average electricity tariff for businesses has been estimated for this year of € 150 per MWh. This threshold was determined since in the first five days of this new year the tariff fell below 200 euros per MWh.

The trade association also underlines that the main institutions expect a progressive (although not very fast) reduction throughout 2022.

In detail, in Sardinia compared to three years ago, the increase in the cost of electricity will be 949 million euros, with an estimated total expenditure for 2022 for companies on the island of one billion and 900 million.

At the regional level, the higher additional cost will be borne by companies based in Lombardy: compared to 2019, the increase in the cost of electricity will be equal to 8.5 billion euros. Followed by Veneto, with an extra cost of € 3.9 billion, Emilia-Romagna with € 3.5 billion, and immediately after Piedmont with € 2.9 billion.
