« The Italian Government is ready to support the financial commitment to host the Einstein Telescope in our country , the large research infrastructure for the study of gravitational waves that Italy is applying to build in Sardinia, in the SOS Enattos area, in Lula", considered optimal for the excellent geological and environmental conditions it can guarantee.

This was announced by the Ministry for University and Research . The Government has addressed to Antonio Zoccoli, president of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, coordinating body of the Italian candidacy for ET, a letter sent by the undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano, which confirms the institutional and economic commitment to ensure that the proposal is the winning one in European headquarters .

In the case of the assignment of the infrastructure, we are talking about 950 million euros for the nine years foreseen for construction (from 2026 to 2035) , expenses that will be used for the construction and purchase of goods, materials and technologies .

The allocation was envisaged taking into account the high employment impact, expected spin-offs and the return in terms of territorial cohesion. To obtain the European assignment, the Government has decided to plan a "scientific diplomacy" plan that will involve university and research excellence, including Nobel Prize winner Giorgio Parisi. They will be entrusted with a coordination and dissemination role, so that the quality of the Italian proposal is made known within the Union.

Einstein Telescope will be a third-generation international observatory at the absolute cutting edge of physical and astronomical research. Italy made its candidacy official last June.

«The desire to build the Einstein Telescope in Italy was strongly supported by the Government. This is a strategic choice for a country that we want to be increasingly ambitious", said the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini.

THE REACTIONS – «We thank the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for the significant support of our Government for the Einstein Telescope project – Zoccoli's words in a note - fundamental support for the Italian candidacy of Sardinia to host the future large gravitational wave detector. We thank Minister Anna Maria Bernini for the great determination with which the Ministry of University and Research immediately supported and promoted, both nationally and internationally, this great scientific undertaking, which will revolutionize the study of our universe, allowing us to reach places and times that are currently unexplored and unexplored".

For the president of the Infn, « Einstein Telescope is a unique opportunity not only for science and knowledge, but also for our country . If we manage to win the tough international competition, and today the Italian candidacy is truly the most solid, to create this great scientific infrastructure in Italy, Sardinia will be at the center of global research on gravitational waves, and will be able to attract resources and researchers to its territory and researchers from all over Europe, with positive results in terms of innovation and industrial, economic, social and cultural growth that will affect the territory and the entire country system. T o design the future requires vision and determination. Einstein Telescope is a strategic investment for the future of Sardinia, of Italy, of all of us and, it's nice to say, especially of our young people."

«We bring home another important result - declared the president Christian Solinas - the result of the commitment we have made in recent years to make Sardinia an absolute protagonist in the field of physical and astronomical research. The commitment to the allocation of almost 1000 million euros in 9 years confirms that the Region has been able to put together a virtuous planning path that will offer our land an extraordinary impact in terms of employment and territorial cohesion".
