The Einstein Telescope is the main opportunity to increase the attractiveness of Sardinia, since «the construction phase alone should generate over 6 billion in economic activity and create more than 36 thousand jobs».
This is what the OECD claims, which today, in Nuoro , in the auditorium of the Regional Higher Institute of Ethnography, presented its report on the strategies to increase the attractiveness of the Island .
The report was illustrated by Claire Charbit, head of the Regional Attractiveness Unit of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development . "To increase attractiveness, the two keys are to have strategic vision and coordination , promoting complementarity between the various institutional actors, giving each a specific role and encouraging collaboration between them," said Charbit.
In illustrating the objectives of the analysis, Charbit explained how «Sardinia is a territory that has all the environmental and capacity resources to be more attractive» and that «especially in a global moment like this with the earthquake of American duties, it is essential to adapt public policies . Attractiveness has different characteristics depending on the actors: the requests to attract "talents", such as having affordable homes and a high-level environmental context like here in Sardinia, can paradoxically be contrary to those requested by tourists who with overtourism can ruin the environmental ecosystem: the ability to find the right balance is essential to make Sardinia a more attractive territory in the future».
And, among the projects capable of guaranteeing the development and relaunch of the Island, there is precisely the Einstein Telescope , the observatory for gravitational waves for the construction of which, in Sos Enattos, in the territory of Lula, Sardinia is competing with Limburg , a region on the border between Holland and Belgium.
For her part, Governor Alessandra Todde, present at the event, highlighted how Sardinia has a "lively" economy, but, on the other hand, "every year 5,000 young people leave" ( VIDEO ) . For this reason, she explained in her speech, "the right to stay that we must guarantee to our young people starts from a change of mentality : we must stop asking for the Sardinian license that leads us to think in a closed way and not be open to new things, in order to be able to attract young people from abroad ".
"Attractiveness," Todde continued, "is not an end but a means, and in my first year as President I have seen both the scale of our challenges — from healthcare to energy, from transportation to employment — and the remarkable resilience and creativity of the Sardinian people. I firmly believe that through effective public policies, strategic private investments and robust international cooperation, we can create a more prosperous, sustainable and inclusive Sardinia."
