Who said Easter and Easter Monday are just barbecues and trips out of town? In Cagliari, the spring festivities are tinged with art and culture: on Sunday 20 and Monday 21 April, the city's Civic Museums will remain open to offer an unusual (and fascinating) alternative to the usual destinations .
At the Galleria Comunale d'Arte, in the heart of the public gardens, an extraordinary journey unfolds through the Italian twentieth century. The Ingrao Collection is a concentration of modernity and vision: from Umberto Boccioni to Giacomo Balla, from Sironi to Depero, from Severini to Carrà. A room is entirely dedicated to Giorgio Morandi, with intimate and rare works, while Mino Maccari dominates with the largest public exhibition dedicated to him.
The Francesco Ciusa room is a must, a tribute to the great Sardinian sculptor. Contemporary art then bursts in with “Tutto il peso del mondo”, the solo exhibition of the artist Pastorello, curated by Alessandra Menesini: a visual journey between gravity and lightness.
At the Palazzo di Città, instead, the exhibition Memoria e visioni is a deep dive into Sardinian artistic identity, with works from 1859 to the 1980s from civic collections. A refined selection, which reveals rarely exhibited pieces and tells the changing face of the island's creativity.
Finally, for the more exotic spirits, the Siamese art museum “Stefano Cardu” is a jewel waiting to be discovered: silver, porcelain, ceremonial weapons, manuscripts and precious tempera paintings.
A unique collection in Europe, with guided tours on Sundays at 11am and 4pm, to travel through time and space to the heart of Siam.
